    Shupersal addopts Yoav battalion

    19.3.18

Yesterday, at the "Adopt a Battalion" ceremony of the Yahad- United for Israel's Soldiers organization, the Shufersal Company adopted the Yoav battalion, a combat unit close to the city of Eilat. Aberkohen said that through this adoption he has the opportunity to reach the only border area in Israel that he did not command over during his military service.

Aberkohen, who served for many years in the military service, sees the great importance in the connection between the civil society and the business sector towards the military. He promised to the fighters of the Yoav Brigade that the employees of the Shufersal branches in Eilat would embrace the fighters of the brigade with great warmth.

Brigadier General (Res.) Yehiel Gozal, the CEO of the united associations of LIBI and AWIS, who served as the commander of the Paratroopers Brigade when Aberkohen served as commander of the Golani Brigade, thanked Shufersal for joining the "Adopt a Battalion" family. Gozal added that the Shufersal Company has also joined the emergency fund to help IDF fighters in times of war.

On the way to the ceremony at the unit, the guests stopped to observe the Egyptian border on Mount Hezekiah, and received from Colonel Raz Sarig, the brigade commander, a review of the area and an assessment of the relations between the IDF forces and the Egyptian and Jordanian forces for the maintaining of a quiet and peaceful border.

Colonel Raz Sarig, the commander of the Yoav battalion, told the guests that during his military service, he has served in various command positions: As commander of the Duchifat unit, Deputy Brigade commander of the Kfir unit, and now, commander of the Yoav battalion. As the Yoav Battalion has now joined the "Adopt a Battalion" project, he is looking forward to see his soldiers benefit from the welfare that the program offers. It is all thanks to the companies who recognize the Sisyphean work that the soldiers are doing in order to maintain the country's borders.

Varda Druker, the director of the "Adopt a Battalion" project, quoted David Ben Gurion, by saying: "An army builds a nation – that builds an army".

David Laron, VP Operations at Shufersal and Yaacov Sudri, Director of the Southern Region, also took part in the visit.
