Cultural Sundays |
|
Through the generosity of the Charles Bronfman Foundation, the Libi Fund, together with the IDF Educational Corps, has since 1987 been conducting an outstanding program called "Culture on Sunday morning" for combat soldiers.
Every Sunday morning several hundred combat soldiers are taken to attend a specially arranged showing of one of a number of performances and events.
These include productions of drama, comedies and musicals by our major theaters, (Cameri, Habimah and others) as well as classical music concerts, ballet and contemporary dance and visits to various exhibitions at museums all over the country.
For many soldiers this is their first exposure to the astonishing rich cultural life available in Israel. This introduction to a world of culture on an international level, unknown and unfamiliar to them is an experience of which they would otherwise be deprived. This project also offers a break from active combat duty – a break that obviously adds to the morale of the soldiers. The I.D.F Educational Corps is anxious to expand this program and to be able to provide this unique opportunity to a larger number of soldiers. Assisting this cultural program is a way to express concern and gratitude to these youngsters, who are devoting the best years of their youth in the service of their country, risking their lives in the defense of the State of Israel. |
